Awaken from prejudicial stupor...

"He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean. So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?” - Acts 10:28-29 (NIV 2011)

Peter was about to speak to a large crowd of Gentiles, yet just a short time prior to this event, it would have been impossible.  Peter would have never imagined being in such a position; not because of he had a fear of public speaking, although I'm sure that was an issue for him at one time in his life, but because he was a Jew and he was not to associate with a gentile, much less speak to them in such large numbers.  Peter had come to the realization, with God's assistance, that "nothing" was to be declared unclean (Acts 10:15).  This included the very people in whose presence he stood.

Don't you like the strong presence in which Peter addresses the crowd, yet the humility in which asks the question at the end of the above text.  It's almost as if Peter came in and said, "let's talk about the elephant in the room and move on..."  Peter had moved on passed any prejudice that he might have had at this point and was ready to address the issue at hand.  He was ready to speak the truth of Christ's salvation for EVERYONE; God demonstrating no favoritism.  Peter had awoken from his own prejudicial stupor, one that caused him to limit the power of the Gospel.

I wonder what prejudice is limiting the Gospel from working in our own lives.  Is it a prejudice toward another livestyle, another culture, another social status, another habit, another tendency, another tradition, another "anything?"  What is it that we hold onto that limits the Gospel?  Peter was able to awaken from his stupor, can we?

In Christ,

Bro. Grant
